English for kids

This is the way we wash our clothes

With this song, the little ones will be able to expand their vocabulary as they learn about a very common task that all people do: washing their clothes!

About the Song

Learning English through songs is ideal for the little ones, they get to know new concepts through rhymes and repetition, almost without noticing! With the “This is the way we wash our clothes” song, your kids will be able to expand their vocabulary as they learn about a very common task that all people do: washing their clothes!

In this nursery rhyme for kids, Billy the Chick, Lisa the Cat and Elliot the Panda tell the story of what happens to their clothes after some time playing in the backyard. First, the friends are jumping in a puddle of mud! It seems really fun, however, all their clothes get dirty. Then, after they’re done playing, the three friends go inside their house to wash their clothes. Once washed, they hang everything to dry in the clothing lines. After the clothes are completely dry and clean, they fold all the pieces and put them away.

First, it would be nice to practice learning the song’s lyrics! As your little one sing this children’s song, they’ll not only get to know how they should take care of their clothing items, but they will also learn and practice basic sentence structure that will help them recognize speech easier as they grow up. Also, in the song, there are some important adjectives in English that are of common use, such as “dirty” and “clean” which refer to the condition of the clothes.

Additionally, the little ones will be able to learn how to use different action verbs in English like: “wash”, “hang up”, “fold” and “put away”, which are needed when talking about laundry in English. These actions describe the process to take care of the clothes, starting when they are dirty until they’re finally clean.

As an extra practice, once you watch the video, why don’t you try playing a fun game with your little ones? Ask them about what type of clothes can they spot on the video. First, when Lisa and Billy are hanging up their clothes, or when the three friends are folding them, or even when they are going through the washing machine and they transform from dirty to clean! What clothes can they recognize?

This is a great way to learn clothes in English, and start associating the shapes and looks of the items with their names in this language. Among the clothing in the video, there are shorts, a T-Shirt, a sweater, a sock, a dress, and a skirt. Encourage your little ones to name as many as they can!

Now, let’s start practicing with a fun song for kids!

“This is the way we wash our clothes” Lyrics

This is the way we dirty our clothes.
Dirty our clothes. Dirty our clothes.
This is the way we dirty our clothes.
So early in the morning.

This is the way we wash our clothes.
Wash our clothes. Wash our clothes.
This is the way we wash our clothes.
So early in the morning.

This is the way we hang up our clothes.
Hang up our clothes. Hang up our clothes.
This is the way we hang up our clothes.
So early in the morning.

This is the way we fold our clothes.
Fold our clothes. Fold our clothes.
This is the way we fold our clothes.
So early in the morning.

This is the way we put them away.
Put them away. Put them away.
This is the way we put them away.
So early in the morning.

Now our dirty clothes are clean.
Clothes are clean. Clothes are clean.
Now our dirty clothes are clean.
So early in the morning.
